WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO GET YOUR MUSIC OUT THERE

Music has becoming more and more business than talent for some which is not such a bad thing as long as you keep it real on both the music and business side. I always tell people to think of their music career as a job the same effort and dedication you put in your full or part-time job, you should put in your music career as well.

The Outlets
Just twenty five years ago the music industry wasn’t like what it is today in terms of getting your music out there, there wasn’t any Youtube, Myspace, ReverbNation etc. Now there’s so many ways you can get yourself out there for your fans to hear your music, as I mentioned before the Myspace, Reverb Nation, Facebook, Twitter Youtube just to name a few. The ball is not just in the recording company’s court any more this means you don’t have to sit around and wait for recording contracts you can diy (do it yourself) The advantage of starting out on your own can be very helpful, for example if it takes two years or five years for a major label to recognize your work, by this time you should be seasoned enough to know what you’re getting yourself into. I recommend that all musicians should learn as much as they can about the music business and the industry.
Appearances
It’s one thing for your fans to keep seeing you on youtube and myspace you need to do shows you need to get on as much shows as you can. Go to the clubs go to the bars tell the managers you will pay them to perform in their club sounds crazy isn’t it, that you are the one paying when it should in fact the other way around but remember you’re not famous yet and you need to get there. Contact the local Dj’s try to be a part of their set tell them you will pay them maybe send them a shout out on your record maybe buy them a few drinks. Keep track of all the local talent shows that showcasing talent in your genre.
Professional
Remember what I said about treating your music career like you would your job. Things you wouldn’t do at your job don’t do it with you music career, don’t show up late for your studio session don’t show up drunk for your session, practice you craft BE READY at all time. Have a telephone number with a professional voice mail. The next message on your voice mail could be a potential break.
Remember keep asking yourself, what am I doing to get myself out there, what am I not doing that I should be doing to get out myself out there there’s a slice of the cake for everybody get yours. I hope this post was somewhat interesting. Peace….
